It’s not all eating burnt baked beans and getting rained on in the middle of a field!

I was off Googling something a few months ago to do with Scouts and I came across this: -

‘If you like eating burnt baked beans and getting rained on in the middle of a field’. . . Scouting is
for you.

It made me laugh, because it that would really encourage me to join in Scouting!

I can’t remember now which Scout Group or
Section it was, but it stuck in my mind and
reminded me of something I wrote several years ago when I was the Distict Commissioner,  it was about Volunteering , it was a press release.

I have slightly adapted it to suit the Group but it went something like this >>>>>>>>>>>>>

Volunteering!

Many times I see in the news youth groups
asking for volunteers and people to come f
orward otherwise “Our group will close!”

Well, we are not asking you to come forward to volunteer because our group will close, because,
quite frankly, they won’t, however what will
happen if you volunteer is this:

•At least six more young people aged 6 –  25 will be
able to join Scouting thanks to you

• You will get loads of satisfaction from Scouting
as you share your skills and knowledge with young people

•You will get loads of satisfaction from Scouting as
you watch young people grow and learn

•You will be given a clear role in Scouting with
flexible volunteering opportunities

•You will be given a line manager and a training
advisor to help you every step of the way

•You will learn new skills and be able to take part
in an adult training scheme linked to the Institute
of Leadership and Management, Open College
Network Awards and Institute of Training and Occupational Learning

• You will gain your own badges, qualifications
and long service awards

• You could also have the opportunity to gain
National Governing Body Awards in canoeing,
archery, fencing, sailing, climbing and many more outdoor and adventurous activities

• You will make new friends, at least 32 million
of them across the world!

•You will have the opportunity to travel not
only in the UK but overseas

•  You will be able to add all this to your CV

•You may get to meet Bear Grylls

• And you may even get to meet the Duchess of Cambridge!

Scouting has a strong history in Long Whatton,
it will not close but it can get bigger with your
help and you will benefit with our help!

Long Whatton and Diseworth Scout Group
currently have young people from Long Whatton, Castle Doningtion, Kegworth, Ashby, Hathern,
Belton, Shepshed, Oasgathorpe, Coloreton & Worthington.

So the point is if you would like to volunteer you
do not have to eat burnt baked beans and stand
in fields in the rain.

After nearly twenty-five years of being a
volunteer with The Scouts, I can’t say I have
ever eaten burnt baked beans, now rice
pudding that’s a different story, and we have
rather sophisticated tents nowadays which
allow you to keep dry on a raining day in
the middle of a field.

If actual fact if you don’t to camp you don’t have
too, ‘Every Little Helps!’  Where have I heard
that before????

Anyhow as I was saying, there are many roles
at Long Whatton Scouts all with various time commitments, so please ask and help you
people take advantage of local . . .

. . . Everyday Adventure!
